Biography

Lauren D. Beck was born on July 20, 1986. From her early years she was always a very happy and playful child and enjoyed being the center of attention amongst her family and friends. Her colorful and comedic personality made everyone smile that she came into contact with, and sent most into fits of laughter. Her love for life showed in everything she did. She accepted her illness from an early age, and never allowed it to interfere with enjoying her life. She was known in the community for her love of singing and music. Her favorite artists were TLC, Lauryn Hill, Aahliyah, Monica and Brandy. At an early age she developed a skill for writing poetry to help with expressing her feelings. Her poems were always expressions of love for God and love for her family. At the time of death she was a senior at Annapolis High school and a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her dream was to become a Pediatric Nurse, in hopes of helping others with her condition. She passed away one month shy of receiving her high school diploma. However, her mother stood in her place, and walked across the stage to receive her diploma. This scholastic event marked a great accomplishment for Lauren. Those who knew her marveled at her determination to achieve her goal, despite the constant pain she endured to get to school each day. She wanted to be known as Lauren Beck, The helper; The changer; The do-er; and not just Lauren Beck the girl with Sickle Cell Disease. Her dream of helping others still lives on, even after succumbing to her personal battle with Sickle Cell Disease on April 25, 2004.
